The members of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board-Convention Bureau’s tourism clubs shared a practical session devoted to treating sustainability as a transformative force driving modernisation in the destination and the commitment to responsible tourism.
One hundred participants met in the imposing setting of the University of Girona’s (UdG) Aula Magna to attend the ‘Sustainability and tourism’ professional workshop, which was also streamed online.
The first part of the session was given over to interventions by two experts on sustainability, followed by a debate involving representatives from tourist companies and organisations who interacted with the audience.
Next, various companies from the region presented examples of best practices that they have applied to their activity: Turisme Garrotxa, Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, Klassmark, Play and Train, Càmping La Ballena Alegre, Festival Càntut, Restaurant Les Cols, Vinyes d’Olivardots and PGA Catalunya Resort.
In 2022 the Tourist Board will introduce a technical secretary focused exclusively on fostering sustainability in the region and among its businesses and organisations.
The MICE sector has an important role in this challenge, and the involvement of members of the Costa Brava Girona Convention Bureau in this workshop is an excellent indicator of their commitment.
