The new Peralada winery joins Peralada Resort’s range of premium tourism facilities. The renowned firm RCR Arquitectes, winner of the 2017 Pritzker Prize (the Nobel prize of architecture), was commissioned to create this space and expand Peralada Winery’s facilities with an avant-garde project grounded in architecture, sustainability, local integration and first-class wine tourism.
The result is a building in harmony with its surroundings and the original ‘La Granja’ building, which has been kept as a visitor centre. In line with its creators’ architectural style, the winery has been designed without artifice, blending seamlessly into its surroundings to allow the landscape to take centre stage. Inside, it is open and spacious, without any pillars obstructing the large spaces.
The new Peralada Winery is the first European winery to obtain LEED® Gold status, the most important global certification of sustainable construction awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), which accredits the high standards of sustainability and efficiency that the winery’s facilities meet in terms of their construction, functioning and maintenance.
New experiences added to the range of options
Peralada offers visitors a comprehensive wine-tourism experience by taking them around its five estates and the architecture and sustainability project by RCR Arquitectes before arriving at the Temple, a magical space illuminated by skylights that has been reserved for excellence, creativity and experimentation with wines.
It is possible to arrange private visits, such as the ‘Garbet Experience’, which combines a tour of a spectacular vineyard overlooking the sea with a visit to the new winery and lunch at the Michelin-starred restaurant.
Celler 1923 wine bar is the latest gastronomic venue incorporated since the inauguration of the new winery. Paco Pérez, chef at Peralada Resort, has created dishes inspired by local Empordà cuisine from 1923, the year the original winery opened, which are complemented by Peralada’s wines.
Both Celler 1923 wine bar and the Malaveïna and La Garriga multipurpose rooms can host a wide range of exclusive private wine-tastings tailored to the needs of each group.
Peralada Resort’s estates also offer other points of interest for visitors, such as collections of glass and ceramics, an impressive library with close to one hundred thousand books, the Monastery of Carme, with its 14th-century Gothic church and cloister, the wine museum and the Hispano Suiza permanent collection, with examples of this legendary automobile brand cofounded by Damià Mateu.
