The first episode of the series House of the Dragon, prequel to Game of Thrones, projected images of Santa Clotilde Gardens in Lloret de Mar around the world.
Situated at the top of a cliff that forms a natural amphitheatre, the 19th-century gardens were built on terraces with spectacular views of the sea and beaches of Lloret de Mar.
The gardens cover an area of 26,830m2 and have been used as a filming location for numerous cinema productions and a venue for official and corporate events.
Last autumn, a film crew of 250 arrived in Lloret de Mar and stayed at Evenia Olympic Palace hotel, where they worked in the meeting rooms. Some of the actors stayed at Hotel Casa Coco.
Game of Thrones in Girona
Girona was chosen from among many other cities around the world as the location for various scenes in the sixth season of the series Game of Thrones. Nine spaces in the Historic Quarter were selected and these appeared in eight episodes in the season.
Thanks to the good state of conservation of the city’s historic centre and its medieval streets and buildings, digital retouches were barely necessary, making it easy to recognise the locations used for filming.
The guides Gigs Girona offer a guided tour of the most emblematic filming locations in which visitors can learn all the secrets behind filming the series in Girona’s wonderful settings
