A park encircled by 40 volcanoes deserves to be visited by land and air. Here’s our proposal for exploring a natural setting where every step reveals a new surprise and where you’ll be given a warm welcome.
Day 1 in the afternoon
Businessman Cristòbal Colón’s dream of making a cost-effective, quality product while giving vulnerable people a life project and respecting the natural environment has come true at Cooperativa La Fageda. The group’s first stop will be at this company, situated in the heart of the Fageda d’en Jordà beech forest, in order to participate in work on the vegetable garden with occupational therapy workers.
Afterwards, there’ll be time to enjoy the facilities of the Hotel Vall de Bas, a converted farmhouse close to the volcanic area with all modern comforts, which has five fully-equipped meeting rooms and all the most advanced services. Dinner will be at the same hotel.
Day 2
The breathtaking sight of the Garrotxa Volcanic Area National Park from the air, floating silently through the clouds in one of Vol de Coloms’ hot-air balloons, provides the first surprise of the day, before having a hearty breakfast and a stroll around the company’s facilities.
At midday, the highly acclaimed indoor and outdoor spaces of the Restaurant Les Cols, winner of various architecture awards including the FAD, will be the setting for a two-star Michelin experience in the capable hands of chef Fina Puigdevall, whose cuisine is intimately connected with the rural landscape of the Garrotxa region.
The third activity of the day will take place in Besalú, with a visit to one of the best-preserved medieval sites in the country, including the Jewish ritual baths, or micvah, which together with the one in Girona are the only ones still conserved in the Iberian Peninsula.
The day will end in Girona, with free time before the closing dinner at the Double Tree by Hilton Girona, where you’ll stay overnight.
The city’s great location and excellent communications will make it very easy to arrange the journey home.
