The Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board has gone a step further in the commemoration of the Year of Sustainable Tourism prompted by the United Nations and has declared 2017 the Year of Cycling and Sustainability.
This initiative channels the increasing awareness of visitors, institutions and tourist companies to make sustainability a key element in the development of tourism in our territory.
Within the MICE sector, the commitment of the territory’s institutions and companies in the tourism sector is seconded by user companies’ interest in demonstrating responsible management of resources in corporate journeys, meetings and events as well. The result of this management is registered in corporate social responsibility reports in many organizations.
Within this trend we can highlight the growing demand for meetings with programmes that include activities connected with sport and well-being, healthy eating options and a balance between work and leisure time.
Likewise, there is a tendency to make shorter journeys and use materials that have the least possible impact on the environment.
In turn, the companies in the tourism sector do as much as they can to offer products reflecting the criteria of sustainability in terms of environmental protection, use resources and waste production, and facility and equipment design.
