The EcoEvenia project went into action at the end of last year with the aim of reducing the impact of the chain’s hotels on the environment and encouraging responsible tourism. Now that activities are starting up again, it will continue with even more impetus.
The chain’s first hotel to put the project into practice was the Evenia Olympic Palace in Lloret de Mar, a complex with over 800 rooms and a capacity to host events for up to 2,500 people.
One of the main aims of the actions undertaken is to totally eliminate single-use disposable plastic items from the entire complex. To this end, disposable plastic items like water bottles, plastic cups and cutlery, have been replaced with elements made from compostable or biodegradable materials.
Free easily-accessible drinking fountains have been installed for all guests and a series of entertaining activities and training sessions have been designed to raise awareness among guests and working staff regarding the need to change our habits so as to reduce the use of plastic.
The Evenia’s cuisine is also part of the project. Seasonal, locally-sourced produce and healthy cuisine within the framework of the Mediterranean diet have earned them AMED certification from the Catalan Autonomous Government’s Mediterranean Food section.
